That Friend

He’s reflective, sentimental, quiet

He wants something to reach back and touch him

He wants a memory to hold, to haunt him

He’s waiting, critical, asking

He needs a highlight that sets him spinning

He needs an act of courage to make him willing

He’s stagnant, respectable, falling

He looks for a rainbow that reminds him

He looks for sunshine to melt him

He’s thankful, excitable, turning

He finds everything about him matters less

He finds more integrity, an honest place for his honest mess.

He’s reflective, sentimental, desperate

He needs to face something.

He’s on the verge of something.

Something needs to crumble and fall and die.

Someone needs to hold him

and tell him that this something

is not really who he is.
